Watercolour, 15cm x 24cm (6×9.5 inches), Unframed

When I first moved to Madrid, an eccentric man who worked in the hostal I was staying in said, “You are paying a lot for this hostal, why don’t you come and check out a room I have to rent nearby”. He took me down a backstreet, up an ancient flight of stairs into a beautiful old flat with mosaic-tiled floors, and flung open the balcony doors onto the Plaza Mayor. “I’ll take it!” I said, and spent my first three months in Madrid with the best view in the world.
